How to pay for services at Congruence.

Insurance help?

Congruence Counseling & Psychology, LLC is in-network with CareFirst (Blue Cross/Blue Shield). However, if you do not have CareFirst, that doesn’t mean you can’t afford services! Many insurance plans provide out-of-network benefits that can reimburse anywhere from 50-80% of session fees. Please see the tips at the bottom of the page about how to determine if your insurance company can reimburse you for any therapy costs.

If you can be reimbursed for costs, I can provide you with a “superbill” (an itemized list of services you have received from Congruence) that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

Making payments

Fees for Services

Fees depend upon the type(s) of services you are seeking. For psychotherapy, click the link below for session costs. The amount you pay depends upon the type of session (intake, individual, couples, or group). If you are insured by CareFirst (Blue Cross/Blue Shield), you will likely only have to pay for applicable copay and/or deductible costs for sessions (assuming your plan is accepted by Congruence).

For speaking and consulting services, fees range from $180-$200 per hour + applicable travel costs. Please contact Dr. Freeman-Coppadge (see contact link at the bottom of the page) if you would like to discuss a request for services, or have any questions about costs for services.

Accepted forms of payment

The easiest way to pay for psychotherapy sessions is by credit, debit, or HSA cards. (The only applicable costs for CareFirst clients would be your copay and/or deductible, assuming your particular plan is accepted by Congruence.)

Congruence uses SimplePractice software for keeping track of your scheduled sessions and clinical paperwork. Through this secure, HIPAA-compliant software, you will be able to provide a card to use for all session fees. PayPal or checks can also be used to pay for sessions if you would prefer.

Other services, such as speaking or consulting fees, can be paid by PayPal or check.

Cancellation Policy

If you ever need to cancel an appointment, you are expected to provide at least 24 hours notice in advance. If it is possible, I will try to find another time to reschedule your appointment, though we may not be able to reschedule your appointment until your next regularly scheduled meeting time (e.g., the following week). If you do not provide at least 24 hours notice, you will be charged a cancellation/no show fee of $135.

Hoping for reimbursement from your insurance company?

If you have some other type of insurance besides CareFirst, and you wish to request reimbursement from your insurance provider for fees paid to Congruence, here are a few questions you’ll want to ask so that you can anticipate what your out-of-pocket costs will be.

  1. Does my plan offer out-of-network insurance benefits?

If your plan does not offer out-of-network benefits, you will be responsible for paying the full fee to Congruence and will not be reimbursed for any costs by your insurance company.

  2. What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

The costs may be a fixed amount, a capped amount, a percentage, etc. If you would like, you are welcome to provide your insurance company the specific session codes [CPT codes] you are likely to use. You can find the CPT codes by clicking the Session Fees button below and looking up the appropriate code for the type of session(s) you are requesting.

  3. Do I have a deductible on my plan? How much is it? Have I met it yet?

If you have a deductible, you will be responsible for paying the full fee to Congruence, and will not be reimbursed for any costs until the deductible is met.

  4. Is there a limit to how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?

If you have a plan limit, you will only be reimbursed for the number of sessions you have within that limit. If you exceed the limit, you will be responsible for paying the full fee to Congruence without reimbursement of costs for those additional sessions.

  5. Do I need a referral or any form of prior authorization from my primary care physician (PCP) prior to starting counseling services or having sessions covered?

You may need to get a prior authorization or referral form signed by your PCP before starting sessions at Congruence. If you fail to obtain this written approval, your insurance plan will not reimburse you for any costs you pay Congruence for sessions.

Right to Good Faith Estimate

(For Self-Pay Clients)

  • If you are a self-pay client, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

  • Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • In accordance with the law, Congruence will provide you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your medical service or item.

Additionally, you may ask Congruence for a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling a healthcare service or item. Please call or email Dr. Freeman-Coppadge for more information.
